There are a lot of reasons why someone might not want the big traditional wedding—expense, complicated family situation, personal style. One thing I’ve learned through officiating is that a wedding is special regardless of the size.
Recently I had the opportunity to officiate for a couple who wanted a private ceremony for just the two of them. We met near scenic Inks Lake just before sunset, shook off the December chill, and warmed our hearts with words of love exchanged.
There was no bouquet, no cake, no attendants, but as the sun turned golden, I have rarely seen a more lovely wedding. At its heart, what is a wedding? It is only promises given and received; it is only words—but those words are absolutely everything.
